Becker studied at the Royal Academy School in Antwerp. He then went on to train under the celebrated and accomplished painter Carolus Duran
at his atelier in Paris.
Later in 1894 he lived and worked in London where he achieved commercial success
exhibiting regularly at the royal Academy and at The Walker gallery in Liverpool.
In 1912 after becoming dissillusioned by the London art scene he moved to Wenhaston in Suffolk where he re-established his practice painting mostly outdoors and scenes depicting the life and countryside around him. During his years in Suffolk his output was prolific but he exhibited little

None; but I know I am right, because being a farmer I live all day with horses and men at work, and every time I see them moving about those fields he painted I think to myself, “Harry Becker”.’
